How Much Does Depop Take – Fees

If you’re diving into the world of online selling, Depop is a platform that offers a unique marketplace for fashion and lifestyle items. It’s popular among younger demographics and those looking to offload unique or second-hand pieces. But before you get too excited about making some quick sales, it’s crucial to understand the associated selling fees. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about Depop’s selling fees to help you maximize your profits and avoid surprises.

July 2024 UPDATE

Depop removed the Depop selling fee (10% of total sale price) from July 15 2024 for all newly listed items. This means sellers will receive more cash in their pocket from each sale and now have the freedom to sell a wider range of items on Depop, regardless of price.

Depop is introducing a small fee for US buyers on every purchase which will apply from July 18, 2024. This fee will help Depop to continually invest in Depop Protection, customer support, platform improvements and growing our community.

Depop’s Standard Selling Fee

For Sellers Outside the US & UK

So, how much does Depop take from each sale? Depop charges a standard selling fee of 10%. This fee is applied to the total selling price of the item, which includes any shipping costs you may charge. For example, if you sell an item for $50 and add $5 for shipping, Depop’s fee would be 10% of $55, which equals $5.50.

Payment Processing Fees

In July 2024, Depop restructured its fees, removing the selling fee except for the processing fee.  Depop payment processing fees are as follows. Stripe, Depop’s payment processor, handles these. The processing fee is typically 3.3% + $0.45 per transaction. So, if you make a sale of $50, you’ll be charged $2.10 (3.3% of $50 plus $0.45).

How Fees Affect Your Pricing

When setting your prices, remember to factor in these fees. If you want to make $50 from a sale, you should price your item higher to cover the fees. For example, if you want to net $50 after fees, you’ll need to set a price of approximately $59.25 to account for Depop’s 10% fee and the payment processing fee. Use Depop’s fee calculator or a similar tool to help you determine the optimal pricing.

International Sales and Currency Conversion Fees

If you’re selling to buyers in other countries, Depop handles currency conversion for international transactions. However, this service comes with its own set of fees. Depop will convert the payment to your local currency at their exchange rate, and there might be additional currency conversion fees applied by Stripe. This can affect the final amount you receive, so be mindful of the potential differences in exchange rates and additional fees.

Shipping Costs and Fees

Shipping is an essential consideration when selling on Depop. You have the option to either include shipping in the item price or charge separately. If you choose to charge separately, remember that Depop’s fees are applied to the total transaction amount, including shipping. Additionally, you need to manage your shipping costs carefully to ensure they don’t eat into your profits.

Returns and Refunds

Depop has a return policy that can affect your fees. If a buyer requests a return or if there’s an issue with the transaction, you might have to deal with refunds or partial refunds. Fees are typically not refunded by Depop, so if you issue a refund, you’ll absorb the selling fee and payment processing fee on the refunded amount.

Tips to Maximize Your Profits

  • Set Competitive Prices: Factor in all fees and your desired profit margin when setting prices.

  • Consider Bundling Items: Offer discounts for bundled purchases to increase sales while managing fees effectively.

  • Optimize Shipping Costs: Use efficient shipping methods to reduce costs and make your listings more attractive.

  • Stay Informed: Keep up with Depop’s fee structure and any changes to ensure you’re always aware of how it impacts your sales.

Understanding Depop’s selling fees is crucial for anyone looking to succeed on the platform. By being aware of the 10% selling fee, payment processing costs, and potential additional charges for international sales, you can better manage your pricing strategy and maximize your profits. Keep these factors in mind as you list your items and handle transactions, and you’ll be well on your way to a successful Depop selling experience.

Happy selling, and may your Depop shop thrive!
