How To Sell On Kidizen

We have been reselling for over 25 years on almost every marketplace out there, and new marketplaces are launching daily. The big question is, can you make money by selling on Kidizen? Absolutely! Whether you want to add a little extra cash in your pocket or start an entire business, selling on Kidizen can do just that. It will take some work, but the guide below should get you in the right direction.

Before you begin selling, you will need to create your Kidizen account and link your bank account.

If this is your first marketplace, choose a profile name you can brand across other marketplaces for consistency.

About Kidizen

As the name may hint, Kidizen is a marketplace focused on—you guessed it—selling kids’ clothing and toys. With only 1 million users, Kidizen is made up of “moms” reselling clothing items their kids have outgrown. Kidizen recently launched a “Mamas” category for moms.

What Can I Sell on Kidizen? What Items are Prohibited?

Kidizen is a marketplace for mamas; unlike other marketplaces, Kidizen only allows items labeled for kids as long as the item listed falls under the listing categories and subcategories provided. Similarly, women’s items can be listed under the Mama category as long as they fall under the listing categories and subcategories provided. Any items outside the provided categories should not be listed on Kidizen.

It is prohibited on Kidizen to sell counterfeits or replicas of branded products.

Prohibited Items Include:

  • Replicas

  • “inspired” items

  • used underwear

  • Food products

  • Perfume

  • Wellness products (i.e. diet supplements, protein powder, etc)

  • Make-up and beauty products

  • Hygiene products

  • Tech/electronics products and accessories (i.e. gaming systems, gadgets, personal devices, phone/tablet accessories, etc)

  • Furniture

  • Crib bumpers

  • General home decor and home appliances

  • Kitchen products and appliances

  • items that pose a health hazard and illegal items.

Kidizen prohibits the sale of any and all items that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and/or manufacturers. Please visit the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website for more information on what items are subject to a recall.

When Selling clothing items it can be very lucrative and challenging. Every peice of clothing will fit a little differently. Your listing must include measurements to help buyers decide to hit the buy button.

Where to find things to Sell on Kidizen

On Kidizen, moms will list clothing their children have not worn or outgrown.

If you are a mom looking to turn reselling into a more significant side hustle, Thrift Stores, Flea markets, and yard sales are also famous for resellers to source items.

Another favorite of ours is clearance items from online or brick-and-mortar stores.  This is also known as Retail Arbitrage (RA) and Online Arbitrage (OA). RA involves sourcing items from a retail store with the intent to resell them, while OA consists of sourcing items from online stores with the same purpose.

Outlet stores can also be an option. However, be careful, as items in outlets are often manufactured to be sold exclusively in outlet stores.

Lastly, as you grow your business, purchasing liquidation lots may be the key to expanding and taking it to the next level.

Think Like A Buyer – Create Quality Kidizen Listings

When a buyer searches for an item on Kidizen, they see the photo, size, price, and shipping cost of the item before that buyer selects your listing.

Photographing your Items

We have all heard a picture is worth a thousand words. You can spend time sourcing, listing, and photographing, but you’re losing sales if your listings are filled with BAD photos. In order to sell items, your photos will need to catch your buyer’s eye. Photos are a buyer’s first impression before even clicking your listing. When searching for an item, I will filter by brand, size, etc. Those with the best photos are viewed first; I rarely ever look at a listing with a horrible photo.

A recent survey of online consumers revealed that 93% of their purchases were based on product images alone.

Building the Perfect Title for Kidizen

You have taken an excellent photo for your listings. The second most important item your potential buyer will see after the image is the Listing Title! You have just 255 characters, including spaces, to attract that buyer. You want to use as many words as possible and clear, precise words that describe what you’re selling!

kidizen listing title

Brand– The first key to building a title to attract a buyer is the brand. I have seen numerous listings where the brand is missing or misspelled. I have also seen where some users will attempt to use a popular brand such as LuLulemon to attract a buyer on an unbranded, nonrelated item. I immediately skip past those listings for the simple fact that if you are trying to deceive me with a title, what else are you trying to deceive me on?

Name of Item – The second priority in the title is the name of the item you are selling. If you are selling LuLuLemon leggings you want to find the name of those leggings. Example “Wunder Under” “All the Right Places “

Style—Next, we like to build our listings according to the style of the item we are selling. Sticking with our example above, you would use something like “High Rise,“Crop, or “Low Rise.

Category– The 4th element of the title is the category. This is the question you will ask yourself: Is this a Pants, Leggings, or shorts?

Color– You are running very low on space at this point in your title. Your listing should have the correct color built into the actual listing. For potential buyers who are not using color filters to search for items, placing the color in the title will benefit them if they search for a term such as “LuLulemon black legging. Be cautious when listing a color different from the color in the actual listing. Using a term such as “Slate “in your listing when you selected black could come back to haunt you if a buyer opens a case claiming they thought the item was slate and it was black. The Moral of the story use consistency.`

Size—If space is available, it is recommended that you add the size to the title. Instead of writing out the word “Size, you can abbreviate it “Sz.

Descriptive- Lastly, if you still have space available, you will use any other words you feel a buyer may search for.

What Does a great Title Look like

LuLuLemon + Wunder Under + Crop + Leggings + Black + Sz 6

What if you do not know the name of an item?

You can search the brand’s website and Depop listings for that brand and category for similar listings or ask a reseller group or brand group for help.

You can also find information on items by reviewing the tags on the items.

How to Find the Brand

If you have a clothing item with a tag, search for the RN number. RN stands for Registered Identification Number. The FTC issues this number to U.S. businesses that manufacture, import, distribute, or sell products covered by the Textile, Wool, and Fur Acts. Businesses can use this number on product labels instead of the company name.

How To Find the Style

All brands are different in where you can find the style number. On tops, typically, you will find an additional tag on a side seam—you know, the ones that are itchy! On that tag, you will find the style number. A simple Google search of the brand and number will most likely result in the correct name of that item.

Building Your Listing

Optimizing your Kidizen description

When selling on Kidizen, optimizing your description is very important. Without a well-written description, buyers may never find the items you’re selling on Kidizen. What should be included in your description? At a minimum, you should include:

  • Start with a headline

  • Add measurements

  • Describe the condition of the item

  • Be specific and relevant

Description Templates

We love to use templates when building descriptions on marketplaces such as Kidizen. Building templates in Microsoft Word or Excel speeds up the listing process and provides a streamlined look throughout your listings. Providing a clear and precise description will not only increase Kidizen sales but will also offer a level of protection against claims if they arise. The more information provided, the fewer questions buyers will have.

Tip : Don’t include irrelevant or repetitive keywords, hashtags, brands or tags.

Sample Description

When selling shoes, I would like to include the following information:

Title/Headline

Brand :

Size:

MSRP:

Color:

Style Type:

Heel:

Platform Height:

Material:

Condition Note:

If you sell shirts or jeans, include relevant measurements such as inseam, waist, and length.

Biggest Rule as a Reseller…. Pricing

How To Price – Check Comps (Sold Listings)

When pricing, if you price yourself out of the market, buyers will browse right by your listings. To price competitively, check the SOLD comps, not the live listings.  Checking comps for items can be done by using the search feature and then the sorting filter for an item you are about to list; with those results, you want to filter for the SOLD listings. Once you have filtered the sold listings, look for items that are similar to yours. Do not spend too much time. A quick review will give you a great idea of where you should enter the market on pricing.

Shipping

On some marketplaces, shipping items can seem overwhelming, but on Kidizen, shipping is straightforward.

Shipping Materials

When selling on Kidizen, it’s essential to factor in the cost of shipping materials. We’ve found that using poly bags for nonbreakable items like clothing is practical and cost-effective.

Depending on the volume you order, you can purchase these bags on Amazon or eBay for as little as $0.05-0.10 each. When shipping heavier, breakable, and odd-shaped items, I like to save Amazon boxes throughout the year for shipping items. Ask friends and family to save boxes for you. I always see people on facebook marketplace giving away boxes after moving. Another great place to grab boxes when you have a large item is from Home Depot or Lowe’s.

Kidizen Shipping Rates

Always Ship Items Quickly

Sellers must ship within seven days of the sale but are encouraged to ship within 48 hours. Once an item ships, a buyer needs to be provided with a tracking number. If you are not able to provide a tracking number and the order is not received, you need to promptly issue a full refund to the buyer.

Shipping Supplies

Selling Fees

Listing an item on Kidizen is free. When listing, you should include an estimated cost of shipping. When your item sells, Kidizen will deduct a 12% (+ $.95) marketplace fee from the List Price.

Sharing ( Bumping) Items

Much like Poshmark when selling on Kidizen, the platform has a social aspect. The most recent listings are shown first in the search results. We recommend that you share your listings daily so that people see the items you list.

Here’s how you can share (Bump): Tap the Share button, which is located in the lower right corner of any listing photo. Once you’ve done that, you can decide whether to share with your followers within Kidizen or with your external networks.

You can share as many items as you want, including your very own listings! To keep the Shop feed uncluttered, you may only share each unique listing once per hour.

Receiving Kidizen Payments

When you make a sale, you have money pending in your account, which will be released when you ship the order. To see your account balance, go to Me > Settings > Kid Bucks.

Once you have shipped your order and the label has been scanned in by USPS, your funds (sale proceeds less the marketplace fee) will move from Pending Kid Bucks to Redeemable Kid Bucks. The delay in payment is so that buyers can be issued a refund if a seller does not ship within 7 days.

You can then use your Redeemable Kid Bucks to make a purchase on Kidizen or cash out to a bank account (no fee) or a PayPal account ($0.25 fee). To do so, go to your profile > Settings > Kid Bucks and click on your redeemable balance.

For new accounts, you must wait 72 hours from the time you create your account before you can cash out.

Making Offers to Buyers

Anytime an item in your shop is carted by a buyer, you will receive a notification in the Me Alerts that they added an item to their cart, and you can tap on the alert if you wish to make them an offer on the items in their cart. This is also an excellent tool for bundling items for a buyer. A buyer can add the items they wish for to their cart, and you can make them an offer or adjust the shipping costs of multiple items if it will be less to ship them (since you will be shipping all together). The offer will expire for the buyer in 48 hours. If an item is purchased while the offer is still pending, the offer is no longer valid, and you will need to make a new offer.

Bundle-Only Items

Designate any listing in your shop as “bundle-only”. When you create your listing, you’ll see the option to designate it “bundle-only” near the bottom of your screen. This means that a buyer can add it to their cart but will need to add another item from your shop in order to check out. You can change this setting at any time under Edit Listing.

Bundle-only listings are eligible for shop discounts unless you, the seller, designate the listing with “exclude from discount”. If there are 2 bundle-only items in a buyers cart they will be able to be purchased together.

Promoted Listings

Promoting your listings on Kidizen brings older listings to the top and boosts sales. Opting into Promoted Listings gives your items better placement in feeds, including filtered, featured, and category pages.

To promote your listings, you are charged $10 to add 5,000 impressions to your account. An impression is when your item shows up in a buyer’s shopping feed, and it is deducted from your account each time your listing shows up in front of a potential buyer.

Vacation Mode

On iOS, to remove your shop from vacation mode, go to Settings (gear icon), tap on Shop Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap on “I’m back! Show my listings.”
